Part-time research assistant (macroeconomics & asset pricing)

GRAPE is looking for a research assistant interested in working on the following project:

A Sufficient Statistics Approach to Macro-finance
led by Piotr Żoch

We welcome applications from candidates who have an interest in macroeconomic theory and asset pricing. In particular, we are seeking to fill a part-time position in macroeconomic modeling of asset demand and supply systems in a project financed by the National Science Center. We are interested in receiving applications from MA or PhD students.

The successful candidate is expected to work about 20 hours a week. The assistant will work closely with Piotr Żoch (GRAPE | FAME) and Yu-Ting Chiang (Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis). The tasks of the assistant will include coding, data management, data analysis, checking proofs, and review of literature as well as drafting components of scientific articles and non-technical posts for a blog. Working knowledge of English is a must. Familiarity with scientific computing constitutes an advantage. Experience in programming in Julia or R is a plus.

In addition to journal articles in top journals, the project is expected to yield several publications in other outlets, some of which may be co-authored by the assistant, depending on the work input. Inclusion of parts of the research performed by the assistant in his/her PhD/MA thesis is also possible.

We offer a scholarship (“stypendium"). The compensation amounts to 5000 PLN per month. The expected contract duration is until the end of the project (March 2025). The cooperation may be extended, subject to successful cooperation and obtaining new projects. We offer a unique opportunity to collaborate with and learn from leading scholars in the field who are involved in the project. This position is particularly suitable for candidates who are determined to pursue a career in academia (e.g., PhD studies in the United States).

Moreover, we offer a designated workspace at an office dominated by young people, all involved in research projects, with a well-equipped computer and all the conventional infrastructure. The assistant will also be able to use the facilities for work not directly related to the project. The working hours are rather flexible and task-oriented. However, the assistant is required to meet with the project team on a regular basis. Due to the extensive collaboration with researchers located in the U.S., these meetings might be occasionally scheduled in the late afternoon/evening of Central European Time.

If you are interested, send us curriculum vitae, cover letter and a sample of your recent writing (e.g. essay, assignment). Applications should be submitted before October 15th, 2025 to p.zoch@grape.org.pl. We retain the right not to reply to all applications.
