Personnel Economics
The Colloquium on Personnel Economics provides a unique environment to discuss research at the intersection between labor economics and management science. The featured research combine carefully designed experiments, with theoretical underpinnings from economics and management to deliver insights on the business practices. The many presentations provide additional evidence that collaboration between economists and business managers is not only possible, but also desirable. The conference had three amazing keynotes: Christopher Stanton, Astrid Kunze, and Dirk Sliwka.
At the conference, we presented the result of an experimental study on the role of external evaluators on recruitment process. The original motivation for the paper are the efforts by academic institutions to promote gender equality, without compromising efficiency. The proposed policies usually require unbiased assessments of candidates' abilities, which among young scholars might be difficult to obtain. In our experiment, we show that external evaluators can fulfill this role and provide unbiased assessments. A complete description of the experiment, and the results are presented in the slides below.
We would like to thank the organizers for accepting our research for presentation, and to the participants for the many useful suggestions and comments.
